Dirty King – 19th June 2017 – Newcastle O2 Academy
When the O2 asked us to recommend a local act to open for the Bat Sabbath show they said they were looking for a heavy riff based band in keeping with the Sabbath vibe. Here at BSC we said straight away give Dirty King a shout they’d be ideal!
So on possibly the hottest Monday in years DK took to the stage first band on early doors probably thinking that a lot of the crowd would still be outside in beer gardens staying cool before the sweat pit of the Cancer Bats doing Sabbath main set. How wrong they were!! The room was already pretty full and by the time the guys played their short but ferocious set they had definitely won a lot more fans. So much so that both God Damn and Bat Sabbath following them gave credit where credit was due, giving them a big shout out.
Dirty King have progressed so much in the last couple of years. They truly deserve cracking gig slots such as this. Hard graft and big riffs. 2016 could very well prove to be their time to shine.
They jumped at the chance to step in for some foul-mouthed slackers and opened for thee awesome Conan. Conan kindly shared their rig with DK and the difference in sound was not only deafening, but defining. NEVER have they sounded better! Huge tones, shear volume and bag full riffs. They were clearly enjoying themselves and so was I! They won a round at the Bloodstock Metal 2 The Masses battle of the bands at Trillians recently and with gigs as good as this they’ll stand a good chance of progressing further.
